Ellis F. Raskin (Associate)

Ellis is an Associate Attorney at Angel Law. In May 2015, Ellis graduated cum laude from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he received CALI awards for the highest grades in the Public Law and Policy Work Group, the Environmental Law Seminar, and Criminal Procedure.

Before joining Angel Law, Ellis served as an extern to the Honorable Goodwin Liu at the Supreme Court of California, where he gained unique insights into the ways in which California’s highest court reviews environmental issues. Ellis also served as a Summer Law Clerk in 2014 for the Alameda County Counsel, assisting agency attorneys evaluate county zoning procedures and Clean Water Act compliance for county stormwater systems. There, he also worked on appellate briefs in cases pending in both state and federal courts.

In law school, Ellis was recognized for his appellate advocacy skills in several moot court competitions and was named 2014-2015 Moot Court Student of the Year. Ellis earned three brief-writing awards and two oral advocacy awards, and he is particularly proud of serving as student coach for the quarterfinalist team at the 2015 National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition.

Ellis also served as the Managing Editor of the West-Northwest Journal of Environmental Law and Policy and has published several articles on topics relating to environmental law and litigation. His published works include: The Definitive Guide to Tree Disputes in California, 21 Hastings W.-N.W. J. Envtl. L. & Pol'y 113 (2015); ‪Report: ‬California Law at the Intersection of Water Use and Land Planning, Public Law Research Institute (2015); and Urban Forests as Weapons Against Climate Change: Lessons From California’s Global Warming Solutions Act, 47 Urb. Law. 387 (2015).‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Ellis received his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Occidental College. He is also a Master of Arts candidate at San Francisco State University’s prestigious philosophy program. Before beginning his career in law, Ellis worked as a high school sports coach and taught philosophy at San Francisco State University.
